Also called green algae, these organisms are commonly found in fresh water, but also salt water, damp soil, and within other organisms. Their cell walls are mostly composed of cellulose along with some hemicellulose and calcium carbonate in some specieis. Chlorophyll is the main pigment. These organisms have a flagella for locomotion. They store food mostly as starch, but also as fats and oils. They contain membrane boudn chloroplasts and nuclei. These organisms may be unicellular, multicellular, colonial, or coenocytic.
