Class Chondrichthyes
![]() Chondrichthyes - Dasyatic Americana (Southern stingray) | Organisms belonging to the Class Chondrichthyes are characterized by their skeleton, which is compsed of soft, flexible cartilage lined with hard tissue. They lack an air-filled swim bladder, therefore must continually swim to stay afloat. Males have pelvic claspers - specialized organs for mating. These organisms also have byplacoid scales; the structure of these scales are similar to tooth structure. Organisms undergo sexual reproduction through internal fertilization. Lastly, these organisms have external nostrils and a keen sense of hearing. |
