Phylum Chordata

Animals in this phylum have a collection of nerve fibers that connects the brain to organs and muscles. A notochord aids swimming. These organisms are also characterized by their tails, a muscular region that extends beyond the anus. They normally reproduce sexually. They have a partially open circulatory system. They also have the endostyle, a groove in the ventral wall of the pharynx. Lastly, all organisms in this phylum have pharyngeal slits, openings behind the head that connects to the throat.
