These organisms have leaves called fronds, but lack flowers and seeds. Most have circinate vernation - tight coiling at the growing tips. Stems are rhizomes that grow at, or under, the ground surface. They have simple roots that arise along the rhizomes near the base of the fronds.

Environment:

These organisms are commonly found in temperate and tropical forests.  Some have also adapted to arid habitats.
